Zendaya, though, is a national treasure

If you think about it, the premise of this movie is just fanservice. I have no issues with the Spidermans’ acting, or anything, it’s just that as someone who isn’t obsessed with Spiderman films, the big audible ‘ooh’ moments in the theater didn’t really land for me. Altogether, I was pretty unimpressed. It felt like 2 hours of forced plot developments and contrived conflict. Fundamentally, the story didn’t have to happen.

I was laughing earlier at a tweet that we never really collectively chose Tom Holland — he was just sort of dropped in our laps as a cultural treasure because of his role as Spiderman. Although, to be totally fair to him, his acting in this film is his best. His pain, loss, and his strength to move on come through well.

On that point, I think the ending was moving, and the correct choice. There’s some ethical commentary and consideration to morality there, which I appreciate. Mostly, though, it’s a brave choice and I respect that. It’s an appealing interpretation of the meaning of heroism. I walked out of the movie thinking it was an okay Marvel film.
